Join Houston Masterworks Chorus for its 24th season of performing brilliant choral masterworks for Houston audiences! This season we put the spotlight on the music of three beloved composers in A Season of Celebration.
In November, the season opens with the exhilarating music of Classical master Franz Josef Haydn. Our concert begins with the Te Deum in C, dedicated to Empress Marie Therese of Austria. The evening culminates with the most beloved of all Haydn's masses, the Lord Nelson Mass, dedicated to the great English admiral, Horatio Nelson. These works are sung in honor of the 200th anniversary of this beloved composer’s death.
In March, the music of Romantic master Felix Mendelssohn will surely delight Houston choral enthusiasts. In celebration of his 200th birthday, we pair Mendelssohn’s Psalm settings with a selection of mass movements by Johann Sebastian Bach, the Baroque master who highly influenced Mendelssohn. We are thrilled to be joined by guest conductor, Dr. John Yarrington, Director of the School of Music at Houston Baptist University.
In May, A Season of Celebration draws to an exciting and climactic end with the immortal Requiem by Johannes Brahms. Perhaps the most deeply human of all requiem settings, the listener is confronted with the most profound questions of life and death and the promise of eternity. The Tallowood Baptist Church Adult Choir will join Houston Masterworks Chorus and Orchestra for what promises to be memorable evening.
